Reading Response #1

Teach Past: During k-12 schooling I was exposed to working with computers a fair amount. In elementary school we had computer rooms were we all got our own computer and we would work on projects for a certain time period a day. In middle and high school it was more of writing papers on our own time. In high school, especially, we only used computers for work periods to finish a power point, brochure or essay. When I got older I also used computers for personal surfing such as Facebook, e-mail, and Youtube.
Teach Present: I see myself teaching younger children in grades 3-5. Integrating technology would be most helpful if there was a time period everyday where they could complete mazes, design avatar like characters, and create a pin pal. They should also right journal entries of what there weekend was like on the computer to improve typing skills. Things like this would help them get familiar with the computer and start advancing the web. Researching and creating power points or brochures would be a creative way to use the computer that would also be fun for the children.
Teach Future: In the future I think was will be most challenging about integrating technology in the classroom will be the cost. It is really expensive for all children to have access to computers. Making sure that all children would have a computer at home would also be a challenged. Also, as mentioned in the readings, integrating real world aspect to younger children will be a much slower process.

  1. Emily - Your ideas about how to use technology in an elementary setting are realistic and achievable. I suspect you will easily be able to accomplish those tasks, and hopefully more!
